Embarrass yourself, he said.

"Come on," he said gently, "Embarrass yourself in front of me. It's just me."

At first, I thought it was the most ridiculous thing anyone had ever asked of me.

But as it turns out, falling in love with someone and loving them are very different things.

To be in love, is all butterflies and romance, saying the rights things at the right moment, moulding yourself into a version of you, that you think will be better received. To be in love, is perfection.

To love someone, is to be able to do anything with them, say anything, be the worst version of yourself and know that it will be okay. To love, is freedom.

So now, I can see what he was talking about. Embarrass yourself. Because if you can do that, if you can put the most ridiculous, nonsensical, horrible version yourself in front of another person and be okay with yourself, and have them be okay with who you are -

that's love.

And it will be harder than being in love, but it will be worth it too.

  1. Beautifully worded! It's so true.

  2. I know what it is that you are trying to say though. To have no boundaries and defences with another is to truly be happy and comfortable with them. And that is, in and of itself, love.
