The Great Gatsby with the Great Leonardo DiCaprio*

It's here, it's finally here! :D Oh my dear soul. I cannot wait until December! I'm more excited for this film's release than for my holiday with my boyfriend (Sorry love... :P). No more talking now. Just watch darlings, just watch. And if you haven't read the novel, do it now!

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get my heart beat back to a normal rate. -swoons- xxx

I love it when you look at me like that. It makes me all tingly inside. Grrr. ;)

Polka dots. Sheer. Ruffles. High waisted.

It's all my favourite things come together in one glorious outfit! :D

If we were in an 80s musical, that would be your cue to jump up and start dancing in perfect synchronisation (might not be a word? eh.) with everyone else while I took centre stage on the nearest table/bench/car.

How I wish. I wish. I wish.

Whenever I wear something like this, I'm always excited by the reactions I get.

Either people LOVE it. And you know, compliments are nice and stuff.

Or people loathe it and twist their bodies into awkward positions so that they can stare at me. I don't know why people do this. I've decided that it can only be one of three things.

a. They're surprised when they see someone who looks like they use soap and showers regularly. (This reason is premised on the fact that most of the people who stare at me look like they need a good scrubbing.)

b. They truly believe that staring at me will result in my clothes magically being replaced by something they find more acceptable. (Pyjama pants and slippers anyone?)

c. They have watched one too many episodes of The Big Bang Theory and now believe that if they stare hard enough, my head will explode. (Thanks Sheldon!)

Whatever the reason may be, it delights me. :D

The top I'm wearing in this photo I bought when I was 17 years old. Clearly I had early indications of being exceptionally good at all things fashionable... ^_^

I just finished a 1.5km swim and since my arms are getting a little sore, I'm going to retire from my laptop for a while and read a couple chapters of The French Lieutenant's Woman.

Loves and kisses,

Does this smell like mothballs to you?

Good afternoon my lovelies :D

How is everyone doing today?

I have an essay and presentation due for tomorrow morning, so I'm just popping in to say hello. If you catch me online again, you have my permission to harass me until I leave.

Anyway :) The shirt I'm wearing today is from a stunning little second hand shop here in Grahamstown called Wonderland Vintage (I'm working on a post about the shop). :D I've been dying to wear it since I bought it and finally today, the weather is just perfect for it.

These days the trend with fashion seems to be less is more. Lord give me strength! I prefer vintage, floral, grandmother, pulled from the back of a drawer clothes.

"Everything I buy is vintage and smells funny. Maybe that's why I don't have a boyfriend." ~ Lucy Liu

Well, I have a boyfriend and heaven knows he does not like some of my clothes.
I have a pair of floral harem pants and when he saw them he asked why I'd made pants out of an old lady's curtains. :| We're the oddest pair - me in my floral pants and vintage jerseys and him in crisp cut blazers and skinny jeans....

I've paired them with my new shoes and skinny jeans, so that I look vintage and not old. There's a crucial difference, if you're going to wear vintage clothes, be sure to mix them with the right pieces so your outfit doesn't look aged. :)

Sketchy advice given on blog. Check.
Photo of self. Check.
Rambling about inconsequential details of my life. Check.
History Seminar prep work. Uhm, pending?

I'm off now cupcakes. Have a good afternoon! Go do something productive... :P

Favourite word: Shopping. Second favourite word: SALE.

I've learnt two very important things in my time away from home as a student.

1. Good style has nothing to do with how expensive your clothes are.

2. If you find something you love and the price tag is out of your range, you can ALWAYS find a cheaper version somewhere if you look hard enough.

I've been meaning to buy a new pair of winter shoes for a while now and last week, a friend of mine mentioned that she saw great shoes in town. So this morning, I decided to take a walk down High Street first thing in the morning.

At first I went into all the usual places I shop for shoes. When I was a kid living with my parents, I would walk in, see something I liked, find my size and mother or father dearest would pay. Now those places would cost me half of my monthly allowance. These days, I have to do little mental calculations for my budgeting. And the fear of hearing "Your card has been declined..." has become very real.

So you can imagine my delight when I found these *gorgeous* shoes today for R80,00. EIGHTY. My average pair back home would cost me over R300,00.

And what made me even happier was that on my way home, I saw a similar pair in the window at another store with a much higher price tag. Bargain and vintage shopping doesn't mean your look will be cheap and old, it's all about how you wear what you wear.

Anyway, that's all my advice and preaching for the day -- on to what I had on the rest of me. Sheer tops are an absolute fave, but I especially like this one because of the lace detail at the top. (I also got this top on a bargain, it has a little red mark on the sleeve so it was marked down... :D )

When I add this to the 1.4km swim I had this morning and the Skype chat I had with the boyfie, it's been a pretty good day. Hope everyone had a good day too! Sweet dreams darlings....

Loves and kisses.

Little grumblings of a little grumpy grump.

Why do I have no shoes on you ask?

Oh, you didn't notice until I mentioned it?

Well. That's awkward.

I'm going to tell you why anyway.

Because on my way home from class this morning, I was caught in a giant, torrential thunderstorm, that I'm sure would have been so romantic if Ryan Gosling were here, but otherwise was just completely and utterly miserable!

Longest sentence EVER. Pause for breath...

My shoes now sit in the corner of my room, in a soggy little mess.

/shakes fist at stormy clouds looming outside window.

I'm going to get into my bed now, order a pizza and eat it all. Yes, yes I do eat my feelings. You have something to say about? Hmm?!

Here's what I wore. Hat. Blazer. Top. Skirt. Blah blah blah. You get it. Just general clothes. Insert some cute about fashion here. Smile and wave. Orrrr. Smile and put your hand on your hip.

Good bye everybody.

See you on other side. Of my pizza. But you don't get any.

/slouches off towards bed, climbs in, and pulls blanket over face.

....She had a crazy look in her eyes...

Yesterday I happened to walk past a blood donation drive on campus. Nothing out of the ordinary, minding my own business. All of a sudden, a little nurse popped out in front me.

"Wouldn't you like to donate blood?" She chirped at me. I do NOT like chirpy people. But I politely told her that I couldn't because I didn't weigh enough. (I've never weighed enough, so I knew it for a fact.) Miss Chirp waved her hand in dismissal and said, "It's okay poppet, we can check now. It might have gone up." I definitely would NOT have liked that. But chirpy people rarely take no for an answer so I decided to just go along with it.

Nervously I stepped onto the scale. I watched the numbers jump around and finally settle. I looked at her triumphantly as the scale proved once and for all that I was not heavy enough. As I bent to pick up my bag and books, Miss Chirp snatched up my arm. For a moment I thought she was going to stick a needle in and take my blood by force. My brain shouted RUN! RUN! RUN!

"You have suuuuuch beautiful veins!" She said as she peered excitedly at my arm.

...Veins? Really? What sort of creepy nurse are you?! I wondered to myself. I've heard a lot of compliments but that has not been one of them. She continued to examine my arm and I mumbled something about having to be somewhere. (I really didn't.)

"So-and-so, you have to come and see this." She chirped across the table to her friend. So-and-so moved across like it was the most painful, tedious thing she had ever had to do. She bent down slightly and looked at my arm.

"Yes, yes I see what you mean. We could do her in a prick or two."

I stared in disbelief at the scene that was unfolding before my eyes. I didn't know whether to feel happy or terrified, which results in a strange fearful confusion. After a few minutes, they released my arms from their treacherous grasps and I fled the building.

Looking back, I can say with a fair amount of certainty that if the sight of all that blood didn't make me feel nervous, then Miss Chirp and So-and-so definitely did the job. I shall be steering clear of blood donation drives from now for fear having another needle-happy nurse near my BEAUTIFUL veins.

Here's what I wore today. I haven't worn my string of pearls
in ages, so I thought it was time to bring them out again.
Floral and pearls.
You just can't go wrong with that combination.
Get me a floral anything and pearls and I will be the happiest chap.
I was definitely born in the wrong decade.
I want floral and pearls and hats and gloves, god dammit,
I want to wear gloves! (To shield my veins from curious nurses...)

I'm off to get some work done now. It's Friday tomorrow. :D :D

Tralalalala... It's a bright, bright, sunshiny day..*

Afternoon lovelies :)

It's such a glorious, sunny day here in Grahamstown that I can't bring myself to sit in my room and work. I wish I could be lying on the grass outside, reading Gatsby. #wishfulthinking But since I do want my degree, I have to finish off this History essay. I am glad to report that there have been no dramatic scenes involving my dear laptop today. :D

I may have to take a little break from the blogland for the next few days since I have a really big article deadline coming up but hopefully I'll be able to manage it all. If I do take a break, then pop in and see me on Twitter/Facebook/ Pinterest. I usually make little stops at those during the day when I have a moment or two. :)

And will someone please go outside and enjoy this lovely day for me? Have a picnic. Drink a milkshake. Read some Gatsby. Pretty please? It's too beautiful a day to waste. Otherwise, have a fantastic afternoon and I will talk to you again tomorrow, bright and early.

I'm not wearing anything remarkable today since it is SO flipping hot. Here's a photo nonetheless, I have to feed the vapid narcissist in me...

I always wondered what would happen... And now, I know.

At approximately 9:47 this morning, I removed my usb drive unsafely. And by that I mean I did what I usually do and just yanked the darn thing out.

About 5 seconds after this, my laptop erupted into a loud, static Terminator sounding sound. My first instinct was to leap out the window. But upon second thought, I decided this might not be the best decision. I pressed the power button frantically but alas, the laptop continued its wailing. I then did what any sane person would do under the circumstances and slammed the lid shut, pulled out the power cable and battery and retreated to the safety of my bed.

I sat with bated breath, mostly expecting my gorgeous pink Dell to explode into a million little pieces. After several painful minutes, I edged nervously back towards my laptop, put the cable and battery back in and gently eased the lid open... Hesitantly, I pressed the power button. The laptop sprang back to life! I was over joyed, I danced on my bed and wiggled my bottom around for a minute.

I glanced back down and stared in horror as a bright blue screen with white gibberish appeared. WHAT IS THIS SORCERY?! I shouted to the heavens. My heart was crushed. How was I going to talk to my beloved followers, how?! I closed Dell once more and lay despondently on my bed. After a while, out of sheer desperation I tried the power button...

I have never been more happy to see the Windows start up screen. As I keyed in my password, I made a tiny note to myself - ALWAYS SAFELY REMOVE HARDWARE AND EJECT MEDIA.

The End.

PS. Here's what I was wearing during the Tuesday USB catastrophe:

Woollen print sweater
(It's from Woolies but I got it for
next to nothing at a second hand sale.)
Denim skinnies (Woolies)
Pearl earrings (They were a gift)
Pocketwatch necklace (Sass Diva

Glittery gold and sparkly all over..*

 Hello darlings :)

How is everyone on this beautiful Monday? At the moment, I'm sitting at my desk, basking in the midday sunlight and eating delicious fudge, courtesy of my kind neighbour. :) I have so much work coming up this week, including a double page spread for my Journalism class. (Lord help me...) So right now, I'm just enjoying my last moment of peace for the week. Last week I crossed the 9 000 page view threshold, which makes me very excited! :D :D Thank you so so so much for all the support.

Here's what I'm wearing for the day. When I got dressed this morning, it was dull and drizzly so right now I feel like I'm about to melt into a little puddle..

I love this piece to death.

Tan cable sweater (Jay Jays)
Cut off skinnies (Woolies)
Gold leaf necklace with beads (Sass Diva)
Emerald gem ring with gold band (Sass Diva)

One day I WILL own a real one. Mark my words. Even if I have to rob a bank to get the monies.

To be completely honest I'm only half paying attention to you now because I just read something ridiculous,
unbelievable, completely and utterly stupid about Morgan Freeman marrying his step granddaughter which I am SURE is a giant load of... ahem... bad stuff, since the place I read it was on Twitter. Whatever happened to responsible Journalism people?! These celebrity Twitter rumours are just getting out of control..

Moving on. If you'll excuse me, I'm off to do something productive... Like watch the latest ep of Grey's Anatomy I think.

Love and kisses.

I want to be a fairytale princess bride too...

When it comes to weddings, I go all the way back into my Indian roots and I imagine all the colours of the world in one enormous space of vibrant music and romance. I mean a quick look at my Dream Wedding board on Pinterest will tell you that much.

But once in a while, I see a white dress and I think of all the princess films I've watched and for a tiny second, I wish I could have a day in dress like this. Although, I think it might look a little out of place on me.

This dress literally takes my breath away. It's from the Delphine Manivet spring 2012 collection.

If you want to see more of the collection, follow the source link below the photo. :)

Right now I'm going to clean up my space and get some writing done,
so I shall leave you with silk, satin and lace princess dreams...

My day as a one-man band. :)

Good morning everyone :)

It feels like I haven't been here in years... I've had quite a busy week, so I'm really only here for a second before I pop off to the library.

What I'm wearing:
Cut out off the shoulder top (Jays Jays)
Bronze denims with gold button detail (Jays Jays)
Gold chunky bangles (Woolies)

I'm very conscious of how noisy I am today and keep trying to move realllllly slowly so as not to annoy anyone. All attempts are failing miserably. I have now also realised how much I fidget during classes.

Tomorrow night, I'm going out to a music thingy and hopefully I'll get some good photos for you guys.

That said, I hope everyone is having a fabulous day. If you're doing anything interesting or just want to share, leave a comment or private message... :)

                                                                                Lots of love, Star*
